This “case study” is a very good example of how anyone can break into the Freelance Writing industry with real force – and very quickly. “Chris” (who doesn’t want his real name revealed), a recent graduate of the Freelance Writing Masterclass, sent me an email recently telling me his story. Here’s his email below:
I’m a nervous wreck right now.
I’ve just received an offer to write a ton of content for a major Health website. Honestly, it’s not really the writing that scares me, it’s the amount of money they’re offering. It seems unreal!
So, here’s my original pitch (my first pitch to any website, in fact!). I’ve copy and pasted the query letter below:”
Hi, (Website Owner)
My name is Chris Givern, and I’m a Freelance Writer who specializes in writing amazing content for companies in the Health and Wellness industry. You can see examples of my writing and rates on my website here:
(Chris asked not to have his website revealed for privacy purposes – sorry!)
I have a swirl of ideas and topics that I’d like to share with you that I think would complement your blog very nicely. I’m also an expert in writing SEO content, so you can rest assure that all of my articles will have a very good chance of ranking high in the search engines.
After reading through your website, I think my writing style and knowledge of the industry would pair well with your website and promote reader engagement.
I hope to work with you soon, and looking forward to your reply!
“Less than 2 hours later, here was the response:”
It seems you’ve contacted us at just the right time. Our team was just discussing the need to hire a writer for our website, blog and newsletter. We had a chance to look at your website and your rates – you seem like you’d be a good fit for us, and your rates are in line with our budget.
Could you do us a favor and write a sample (paid) blog post for us? I’ll send you the details in a few mins. If it fits with the rest of our site, we’d like to make you an offer.
I’ll be in touch. Thanks Chris.
“He kept his word – less than 10 mins later I had an email with the details to write a 1000 word blog post. Luckily, I was familiar with the subject so fleshing it out was under 2 hours.
To make a long story short – they loved the blog post and made me a member of their team just a few hours later. And, they gave me enough work to last a whole month! As well as the ongoing editor for their monthly newsletter – crazy!!
The whole package is worth $5,300, plus an additional $250/newsletter each month.
I keep pinching myself to see if this is for real. I literally finished the masterclass yesterday, and this was my first writing pitch EVER!! Is this normal?! Lol.
Anyhow, I have a lot of work ahead of me, so I guess it’s time to get busy!
Thanks Bill, really…for everything. You guys have literally changed my life.
p.s. – feel free to share my story with other members (but please don’t reveal my real name, I’d prefer to stay under the radar). I’m sure it’ll provide some inspiration!”
This is Chris’ story. He literally just finished the 7 Day Freelance Masterclass just the day before and landed a $5,300 contract just days later. Is this normal?
Yes, absolutely if you follow what I teach you : )
Just to recap what Chris did here to get this contract;
Chris signed up as a free member, then upgraded to a Full Member one week later.
Chris spent 2 weeks going through the Freelance Writing Masterclass and completed all assignments.
Chris created his website and portfolio, and emailed a few websites and made his pitch.
Chris landed his first big contract with the very first web company he emailed.
Chris is happy and can now pay his bills for the next few months – then take a vacation : )
This is really all Chris did to get to this point. He took what we taught him, applied it and took action. Keep in mind Chris has no formal writing experience. He took a 2 year Health and Nutrition college course and that’s where he decided to put his education to use.
I’d like to remind you that you don’t need a college education to be a writer! You just need to have a passion for something or be knowledgeable about a certain subject/niche. If you’re not, make yourself into one! Pick a subject that interests you, and research the heck out of it.
Become an instant expert – it’s possible to be an expert in any topic with the right amount of research!!
I hope Chris’ story has inspired you to take action and get yourself in a position to land some writing contracts and start making money. You may not land a huge contract like Chris did on your first try, but you will see amazing results none the less!
